New Monitor

At Mr. Wonderful’s insistence, I now have a new monitor for my computer. I have to say that I was reluctant to get a new monitor as my old one was working just fine.  My love of new technology often prompts me to get the latest and greatest things, but in SOME things… I’m in the “if it works, don’t replace it!” camp. One of these things is computer monitors (another one is cell phones).  Here’s my experience so far:

Mr. Wonderful thought that since I have been working on the computer more, especially for art, I needed a professional-sized, high-resolution monitor.  Being a professional, he would know! So I gave in.

WOW, what a difference.  I am now looking at you through a HUGE monitor.  (A Hewlett Packard model  HPw2408h, if you want to know.) I love it. The color is so rich and clear and the desk area is so wide, I can have several windows open and usable at once! No minimizing!

But then we played some sound through the built-in speakers.. it was AWFUL.  Remember those old transistor radio speakers?  Sounded like that.. very tinny.  I am not a music type person, so after listening for a while, I got used to it.. but those first 10 minutes or so were just terrible. I decided that if *I* noticed them, they must be pretty awful.

When I mentioned this to hubby, he asked if I wanted to take back the monitor.  I told him no.. I got the monitor primarily to look at,  not listen to so this would do… maybe just get some nice speakers.  Well, he came home last night with some *serioius* computer speakers.  (Altec Lansing VS2421 for those of you taking notes.)

These things have a subwoofer box that goes under the desk, the left and right speakers up on stands (for free and clear sound) and a controller that sits here on the desk for power, volume, treble control, aux input (for listening to mp3 player through speakers!), headphone jack and a built in mic for chatting or recording.

I have to say, I am very pleasesd with the whole set up.. monitor and speakers.  Sitting here computing, drawing and listening to videos and music is a much better experience.  Thank you, honey!

What a sweet heart, you are so lucky. I love my HP monitor also, like you said it made a huge difference the colors and everything seem so much brighter, clearer etc. I save my speakers from my old computer, I rarely listen to much on my computer. Enjoy your new set-up!

I do, Patti! I have had good experiences with the high-end HP products in general.

I think the lesson here is the best tools for the job. Mr. Wonderful has always believed that…especially when it comes to stuff for me.

But people of our generation have the old “if what I have will ‘do’ I don’t need another” mentality. That is being financially practical. But there is something to be said for the practical investment in more efficient tools to help you do the things you need to do, or the things you love, much better. Don’t you agree?
